A new Christian service ministry is developing in our parish and in parishes throughout our nation. It is entitled Walking with Moms in Need and was inspired by the encyclical Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life) that Pope St. John Paul II issued in 1995. In this document, the pope reaffirmed the Church’s constant teaching on the value and inviolability of every human life. He wrote,
“We need to question how widespread is the culture of life today among individual Christians, families, groups, and communities in our dioceses. With equal clarity and determination, we must identify the steps we are called to take in order to serve life in all its truth.”
Purpose:
Walking with Moms in Need calls us to become our sisters’ and brothers’ keepers by looking for, and looking out for, pregnant and parenting moms and families. When we encounter them, or learn of them through others, we can inform them about this parish program.
